Remember the good ol’ days when you’d have a party and your friends and family would gather around the piano and sing together? No? I honestly don’t have many memories like that either (sounds like something out of “Little Women” or “White Christmas”) but I do remember holidays when my family would sing around my grandpa’s player piano.

My grandpa refurbished this player piano and it was a central feature in his home for decades. When he passed, we inherited the player piano… and hundreds of rolls to play on it!

I think of player pianos as the original AI… they took something challenging and gave you a shortcut. If you wanted to have music but you didn’t have piano skills, player pianos would make it easy to play old favorites and popular hits. Just load the paper roll, pump the pedals like mad, and you have a room full of music!

We’re making our way through the player piano rolls we’ve inherited, seeing which ones still work and how they sound. As we go, we’ll do a little research on each song and create a video.
